아래 상황에서는 내가 문제를 낼 테니까 맞혀보라는 거겠죠. ㅎ

드와이트가 어떤 문제를 내는지 같이 풀어볼까요?

Q: I have two coins, totaling 15 cents. 나에게는 동전 2개가 있고 합이 15센트입니다.

One of them is not a nickel(5센트 동전). 둘 중 하나는 니켈이 아닙니다.

What are they? 그것들은 무엇일까요?

정답은요... a dime and a nickel

드와이트가 놀라면서 nickel이 아니라고 말했는데라고 하자

You have 8 balls. One of them is slightly heavier than the others,

which all have the same weight.

How can you use the principle of balance to find the heavier ball using the scale only twice?

어떻게 하면 균형의 원리를 이용해 딱 2번 만에 공 무게를 재서

더 무거운 공을 찾아낼 수 있을까요?

 

A :

First, select 6 out of the 8 balls and place 3 of them on each side of the scale. If the heavier ball is not among these 6 balls, then the remaining 2 balls must include the heavier one. In this case, weigh these two balls to confirm which one is heavier.

​

If the heavier ball is among the 6 balls divided into two groups on both sides of the scale, then the heavier ball must be within the group of 3 balls that tipped the scale. In this scenario, weigh any 2 of the 3 balls to confirm which one is heavier.

​

먼저 8개의 공 가운데 6개를 골라 이 중 3개를 양쪽 저울에 올립니다.

만일 무거운 공이 6개 가운데 없으면 나머지 2개 가운데 하나가

무거운 공인 것이 분명한 만큼 이를 저울에 다시 재서 확인하면 되고,

만일 무거운 공이 좌우 2그룹으로 나뉜 6개의 공 가운데 있다면

무거운 3개의 공 가운데 두 개를 재서 확인하면 그것으로 확인할 수 있습니다.
